Queenstown in Brief

Queenstown is treasured for its magnificent scenery, adventure opportunities & luxury lifestyle.

Summer in Queenstown is relatively hot & very dry. Average temperatures during the day range between 20-25 deg Celsius (but it can get down to 10 deg Celsius at night). Summer days are long with dawn breaking as early as 5.30am & the sun setting as late as 10.30pm.

The downtown area of Queenstown covers less than 2 square kilometres. Most shops & restaurants are within easy walking distance.

Things to see & do:

Kiwi & Birdlife Park; expanse of ponds, lawns, stands of bush & aviaries that are home to some of NZ's rarest birds including morepork, kea, kereru (native pigeons), kakariki (native parakeets), black stilt (one of the world's ten most endangered birds) & kiwis.

Skyline Gondola (and The Luge) from Bob's Peak.  Best all-round views of Queenstown, Lake Wakatipu, The Remarkables, Cecil & Walter peaks. Activities include the gondola ride; the Luge (a twisting concrete track negotiated on a wheeled plastic buggy with primitive braking system); The Ledge (bungy and swing); & paragliding.

Cruising on Lake Wakatipu on the coal-fired steamship TSS Earnslaw.

Walter Peak High Country Farm; an entertaining vignette of farm life, with demonstrations of dog handling & sheep shearing.

Shotover River & Skippers Canyon; many activities take place on, in or around the river including rafting, bungy jumpingjet boating, river surfingwhitewater sledging, canyoningswinging, and more…

The Rung Way; is the Southern Hemisphere's first and only Via Ferrata system. 12 routes of varying length and diffculty snake their way up the cliffs of Queenstown Hill.
